I just received a copy of the March/April issue of Iowa Outdoors Magazine published by the Iowa DNR. My photos were used on the cover and in the spreads you see below.

Our good friend Jen Wilson, the author of the article, invited my wife and I to tag along. We had a blast touring the park with the ranger and taking photos. You can see more of the photos I took on the trip here.

The story is about the state park Lake of Three Fires in the southwest corner of the state. You can read the first part of the article here. You'll have to get the magazine so you can read the rest!

My Uncle Bill's Canon

Here are some photos of my late Uncle Bill's Canon EF. I love every ding and scratch on the dusty camera. It will have a place of honor in my growing collection of old cameras. I think every photographer has a collection of old cameras. Why not?! They are beautiful pieces of mechanical art. They don't make 'em like they used to!

Breese Family Tae Kwon Do at the Well

Tae Kwon Do = the art of the foot and fist

A few weeks ago I was asked to take photos of the Breese Family Tae Kwon Do exhibition at Wells Fargo Arena here in Des Moines. It took place at the halftime of the Iowa Energy basketball game. The Energy are an NBA Development League team. Two of my nephews, Ben and Jason, were among the participants.

The group was given their own locker room, so we had access to the underbelly of the arena. I wish I would have snooped around with my camera a bit more. Here are some of the shots.

Things are starting to get busy around here. 2011 is looking good through the lenses here in the studio. Lots of projects are in full swing and I will keeping you posted here on the blog. Designing logos, annual reports, ads, shooting portraits and products. Keeping the 2nd floor warm here in Dogtown.

Yvette and I had a quiet New Year's Eve here at home. The weather was a little rough outside and we were spent after ten days in New York over the Holidays. While in the NYC we purchased some festive glasses. They stayed in their packaging well past midnight, sitting forgotten on a desk. I ran across them the other day and decided to try and get our money's worth and give these glasses a purpose. I grabbed the camera and headed outside. Here is what I got...

Howdy! I'm back from a summer filled with lots of inspired photography and rewarding design. I will be posting some highlights in the days and weeks to come. I will also be updating my portfolio, so check that out too!

DSM farmers' market

Here are a bunch of random shots of people and things at the Des Moines Farmers' Market. If the weather is halfway decent you can count on the streets being pretty crowded. Opening day last year had 30,000 people show up. Lots of local flavor on display down on Court Avenue every Saturday morning from now until late in the fall.

This is one of my favorite ways to spend a summer Saturday morning here in this great city. The breakfast burritos are great and you can pick up some fresh produce from local farmers. This weekend we picked up some farm fresh eggs and tasty asparagus. There is a buzz about the sweetcorn showing up early this year. You haven't tasted corn on the cob until you've had it fresh from the field. Cooked the same day it's picked.

Yvette and I tagged along as models/photographers for a story our friend Jennifer Wilson was writing for Iowa Outdoors magazine. We went to Lake of Three Fires state park near Bedford, IA.

We had a blast fishing, hiking, horseback riding, biking and just hanging out. We are planning a return trip this summer with the Airstream.

tulip time in pella, iowa. aka the clog blog

Yesterday, I went to Pella, Iowa with my parents. Every year in early May the fine folks of Pella celebrate The Tulip Festival. It's all about showing off their Dutch heritage by wearing wooden shoes, sweeping the streets, making some of the best pastries in the world and, of course, growing the tulips that blanket the city. The festival starts next weekend, so to avoid the large crowds and catch the tulips in bloom (looks like they are going to be past their colorful best next week) we went a week early.

Below is the big tower in the center of town.

I had the most fun watching people...

The weather was perfect!

The tulips were just starting to fade. Festival goers might feel cheated next week.

chiropractic symptoms

Working on an advertising campaign for a local chiropractor and needed some models with some real life symptoms. We all have our little aches and pains. These are some of the outtakes.

I want to thank my beautiful models and hope they don't mind that I posted these but they were too funny to be sitting around gathering dust on my hard drive. The model release forms are in the mail.
